How Ravensworth Surgery made its website easier for patients, and for the team
Ravensworth Surgery runs its website on gpsites.co.uk. Patients find the things they need most on the homepage, and the practice team keeps the site up to date itself, across both of its sites.

The challenge
Ravensworth Surgery serves patients across two sites in South Tyneside: the main surgery in South Shields and The Medical Centre in Jarrow. The team wanted patients to find online services first, so fewer people needed to ring the practice, and wanted both sites’ details in one place.
What changed
- The main tasks come first. Booking an appointment, prescriptions, registering and opening times are one click from the homepage.
- Online consultation is easy to find. eConsult is built into the homepage, without taking over the screen.
- Both sites in one place. Addresses, phone numbers and directions for South Shields and Jarrow.
- NHS App front and centre. Download links and web access for patients who prefer the app.
- The team updates it themselves. News, such as Patient Participation Group meetings and local health services, plus Friends and Family results, are added by practice staff in minutes.
What our check finds
On 1 November 2026, our automated check of the live site against NHS England’s 50-criterion GP website benchmark found 43 criteria met, 2 that need checking by hand, and 5 to do, with each one listed in the practice’s admin. The September 2024 audit of the old site found 4. Our audit is an estimate, not NHS England’s official score.
